Natural Products #Expowest – Post Show Recap

March 17, 2014

Comments Off on Natural Products #Expowest – Post Show Recap

I recently attended the Natural Products Expo West trade show in Anaheim. I could not believe the size of the show this year. There were more than 2500 exhibitors! It was a wealth of nutritional information.

I enjoyed finding many gluten free and natural products. Here are a few of my favorite products:

sanj tamari

San-J Gluten Free Tamari Soy Sauce. I have been using this brand since going Gluten Free. They introduced me to a travel package of individual packets for on the go! They have an extensive line of Gluten Free sauces.

Mina’s Purely Divine – I chatted with the lovely Mina about her gluten free baking mixes. She made one of her favorite recipes -Coffee Cake using her Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Mix. It was scrumptious! Visiting her site I found lots more recipes. I like the package sizes they offer which makes it easy to have the baking mix on hand. She also has available a GF Bread Mix and GF Chocolate Cake mix.

Frontier Soups – Homemade in minutes. These prepackaged seasoned mixes would make it super easy to make a meal in about 30 minutes. I had a sample of Gluten Free South of the Border Tortilla Soup. I really liked the flavor and am sure it would be a hit in my family. They offer 28 Certified Gluten Free soup mixes!

BB Smooth

Barney Butter – I have heard a lot about Barney Butter. I finally had the chance to try some. Barney Butter is Almond Butter in a variety of flavors. They are all certified gluten free and peanut free. My favorite flavor is the Cocoa + Coconut. It tastes like a candy bar. All the 6 flavors I sampled are very satisfying.

Cucina-Antica – Gluten Free Pasta Sauces. The very inviting aroma of pasta sauce drew me into their booth. One item I am missing in pasta since going gluten free. The sauces I sampled were the Tomato Basil and the Tuscany Pumpkin. The freshness was amazing. The Tomato Basil would make the perfect anytime pasta dinner while the Tuscany Pumpkin reminded me of fall. The sauces at Cucina-Antica are all natural, no sugar, low sodium and gluten free. Thanks for the taste!

The most outrageous food product I spotted (and would not dare try):

Paqui Tortillas – a tortilla chip called Haunted Ghost Pepper. Seriously……why? Okay I shared my sample bag with my Father-in-Law who always says the hotter the better. Well he said these chips burned all the way through his body. From entry to exit if you get my point. Only the brave chili heads should give these a taste.

A favorite non food product:

Flipside Hats – I have a hat obsession. When I spotted these adorable hats, I knew I had to have one. Flipside Hats uses repurposed materials into limited edition hats. I bought one of the Sun Hats. I wore it on a Sunday outing and got a couple of questions about where I got my adorable hat. Love it!

Overall it was a very eye opening Natural Products Expo West. I will be featuring a few more products coming soon.

Natural Products Expo West – Prepost #GlutenFree #Expowest

March 5, 2014

Comments Off on Natural Products Expo West – Prepost #GlutenFree #Expowest

I am relatively new to the Gluten Free lifestyle. I made a decision based on a medical hunch to give up gluten more than 9 months ago. I am not diagnosed as a Celiac but rather more gluten sensitive. It was a personal choice for me and I have never looked back.

There are foods I have missed such as pancakes and breads, but with so many new gluten free products available, these are no longer "stay away from" favorites.

The Natural Products Expo West Trade Show is happening this weekend. It is so exciting. This will be my 3rd year attending. I am on a personal mission to find new, exciting, and delicious Gluten Free products! From the looks of the exhibitors listing – there will be a huge GF presence!

A few companies I am excited to be visiting are:

Seapoint Farms – All Natural Edamame

Birch Benders – GF pancakes!

Hodgson Mill – Gluten Free baking mixes

Mystic Harvest – Purple Corn Tortilla Chips with Sea Salt

Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit Co – Fabulous fruit flavors

Perky Jerky – Amazing beef and turkey jerky

Cookies con Amore – GF cookies!!!

There are way too many must see companies to mention! It should be a huge GF expo! I will share some of my favorites after the show.

Attention Disney fans, get ready to say Awwww and I want one! Huffy Bicycles has launched a limited edition Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse cruisers. These adorable bikes were on display at the D23 Expo. They were also taking orders for the cruisers and I am quite sure it was a sell out.

Disney D23 Expo – Whistle While you Wait! #D23Expo

Comments Off on Disney D23 Expo – Whistle While you Wait! #D23Expo

This past weekend I had the chance to see all things Disney! I was invited to the D23 Expo at Anaheim Convention Center. I have been a Disney fan since my early years. I remember always having Mickey around. From toys to clothes and collectibles, I have quite the Disney assortment. My favorite character is Ariel, The Little Mermaid.

I was not sure what to expect at D23 Expo. There was a lot to see. Almost too much. I could not be in enough places at once. Then there were the lines. Lines for everything. It took quite a bit of time to stand in line. Waiting in line is what everyone was doing. I thought Disney could have done this a bit better. If you are stuck in lines, you are not able to see all the other stuff! I know I missed a lot. To get the best experience from the D23 Expo, I really had to pick and choose which events or shows I wanted to see. If it is one thing Disney does well, it is organizing lines. They had it all under control. Even though the lines were long, they moved smoothly and it was well worth the wait! Perhaps Disney would consider Fast Passes in the future.

The Mary Poppins display in the Treasures Archives exhibit was my favorite. The costumes and many of the props were on display. A bit of behind the scenes magic of making the movie was a pleasure to watch. I especially loved the gorgeous Carousel Horses!

Another exhibit I enjoyed was the Disney Imagineers section. Inside I got to see all types of special effects that goes into the rides of the Disney Parks. Animation, fire, design and more plus the imagineers themselves were there to answer questions. El Fortuna the fortune teller was a crowd pleaser! I was mesmerized by the Aladdin’s lamp display. I also had the opportunity to participate with the Storyteller who gives you JuJu charms you can collect for doing small adventures. That was a lot of fun!

I recommend D23 Expo to all Disney Fans. Plan out your schedule and be flexible. Each day features different events, so attending all 3 days is a must. Be prepared for surprises too. A few major Celebrities made appearances during the demonstrations.

Collectors: There are D23 exclusive items to purchase or collect from the demonstrations. For the Disneyana collectors – The Collectors Forum was the place to be! I never saw so many Disney Pins in one location! Fine art was available too plus hard to find collectibles.

I am thrilled to have been part of the D23 Expo. I consider myself in my second childhood and now I am all smiles! Mickey has that effect on me!

Many thanks to Disney for providing the D23 Expo Pass.

The Color Run – Colorific Fun! #Happiest5k

July 1, 2013

Comments Off on The Color Run – Colorific Fun! #Happiest5k

This past Saturday I participated in the most fun 5K event ever! The Color Run. It was a total blast! From the crazy outrageous participants to the even crazier hosts – The Color Run was one of the best things I have done this year!the_color_run_logoRoll

It was a bit of a struggle due to the super high heat wave we are having in the West. The temperature was expected to be near 100 at the race event. It was a good thing the races were earlier in the morning. The Color Run adapted by adding water elements….aahhhhh.

My day started by wearing all white as did everyone else. Wearing white is a must so you can get colorfied by the end of the 5K. The starting line was filled with all types of people. Young, old, non athletes, super pumped athletes, kids in strollers and lots of newbies. My group was the 8:30 AM group, and off we went. The route had us traveling through the inside of the Pomona Fairgrounds. That was pretty cool. We went through the midway and then through the animal barns, finishing up on the horse racing track. The finish line was the center of the horse track. That is where the color party really happened!

The fun of the color run is getting colored at each 1k. Because of the excess heat, the organizers added elements of water to the color. The first color was WET orange. I was doused with a bright orange jet stream. Beautiful! Moving on down the course, came pink, yellow and glorious blue. The blue crew….they had it going on! There was a blue cloud hovering over the stable area. They really knew how to dose with color. I looked like a bright blueberry! A big thumbs up to the Blue!

I had no trouble walking the 5k and I did it rather quickly. I always walk fast anyway. I told my hubby, who was waiting at various segments, if I had known how fun it was getting colored, I would have walked a little slower so I could experience more fun. I was ready to walk the course a second time!

The Color Run is more than a sporting event. During the race staging, the excitement started with a Zumba instructor really getting the runners warmed up. Boy could she move those hips. The emcee’s were tossing out lots of swag to the crowd. There were frisbees flying everywhere, plus socks, headbands, fanny packs and more. Bummer I did not catch anything, oh well. It really had the crowd pumped up and ready to go.

Yes it gives you a workout but even the slowest walker can participate. Most everyone was walking. The real fun is turning a kaleidoscope of colors by the end of the race. The party was at the finish line. Everyone gathered at the center stage for some pounding music and color throwing amazement. Each participant was provided with a color packet. A count down at the stage then everyone tossed the color into the air. OMG it was the most beautiful color cloud ever! I was in the middle of the color with the biggest smile on my face – although it was hard to see with all the blue covering me. Gotta love those blue sprayers!

When it was all done, I was covered in color and filled with pride that I had finished The Color Run. It was a goal of mine to participate and I did it! I would recommend to anyone to join the fun at your local Color Run. Even my hubby wants to participate in the next one. Families can walk or run together! Check the Color Run page for events coming to your area, there are many nationwide and new cities added all the time. Definitely take advantage of the early registration prices as it can get a little pricey if you wait. You do get a race packet including a tshirt, headband and your pack of color. Even picking up the race packet is a little party. Overall the entire experience was pure colorific fun!

I will be back for next years events in my area. I can’t wait.

Watch the Color Run page for upcoming events. Get out there and walk or run! Enjoy the Color Run Fun!

Thank you to all The Color Run administrators. Everyone I met was very friendly and helpful. You certainly are the happiest! I would love to be a Color Run Ambassador!
