I think my waistband just expanded thinking about this sweet treat day.
Today is National Creme Filled Donut Day! I am sure you have a favorite from a local donut store. I am partial to the Krispy Creme filled ones.
Here are a few recipes I located if you are so adventurous to make your own.
Southern Food at About dot com: Cream Filled Doughnut Recipe – I like this recipe because you can choose your favorite instant pudding for the filling.
cdkitchen has a copycat recipe for Dunkin Donuts Vanilla Filled doughnuts. YUM
You could always leave the donuts to the professionals and choose one like this:
|More creme than donut! Mmmm
From Le Pain Quotidien in NYC. Good thing they are many many miles away! This donut is for sure One 2 Try.
Enjoy your day!
Raspberries have been showing up in abundance in the markets in my area. This sweet summertime berry is perfect for desserts. I have always loved the combination of dark chocolate with raspberry. It is one of my favorite flavors.
Here are a few decadent recipes to try for National Raspberry Cake Day.
From Seasons and Suppers – Raspberry Buttermilk Cake. Can be made with any just about any fresh fruit.
A Self Confessed Foodie – Raspberry Friands
Piece of Cake – Raspberry Pistachio Brown Butter Cake. This sounds heavenly. It is going on my One 2 Try list.
Food Blogga – Raspberry Sour Cream Cake. She calls it the perfect summertime cake!
The way to his heart… – Raspberry Chocolate Cupcakes. It would not be me if I did not include something chocolate. Mmmm, these look so good.
Enjoy your day!
Summer has kept me pretty busy with other tasks and I have not been able to get the National Food days posted much. Well today, 7/30, is National Cheesecake Day! Whether you like a plain old fashioned New York Style Cheesecake or a more gourmet cheesecake like one of my favorites – German Chocolate Cheesecake. (I have a personal recipe that is a killer for that one), enjoy the creamy taste of a decadent cheesecake on this sweet day!
Browsing for recipes I found quite a few delicious recipes and one that I am dying to try.
From The Other Side of 50 – Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirled Cheesecake
At Life is Great – Cappuccino Fudge Cheesecake
On Natalie’s Killer Cuisine – Candy Bar Cheesecake. Oh my this is candy overload! Great idea for leftover Halloween Candy.
The one I am dying to make:
From Spache the Spatula – Vanilla Bean Mascarpone Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Caramel. Seriously, could that sound any better? I am getting the ingredients for this one.
Let me know if you have an amazing cheesecake recipe. I love to hear about other recipes. Indulge today – have a slice of cheesecake. I think the calories do not count on National Cheesecake Day!
Enjoy the day!
I am missing my Valentine today. He is still in Vancouver working at the Olympics. This is the first Valentine’s we are not together. It made me think of many Valentine’s days from my past. Presenting a trip down memory lane.
When I was little, my father always came home with a cute little Valentine chocolate heart and a box of Conversation hearts for his girls and a big heart for my mom.
As we grew older my mom would take us to the stores the day after Valentines to pick out a heart at half price! No wonder to this day I am so thrifty.
In high school they always did “friendship” day on Valentines where you could purchase roses in different colors for different meanings and they would be delivered to the person of your choice. I always got white ones meaning friendship from my good friends. I always envied the girls who got lots of red ones.
My high school boyfriend took me to a fancy restaurant one Valentines day and I later found out he never paid the bill. He told me it was taken care of and we walked out the door together. I could not understand why he was in such a hurry to get in the car. I had no idea. Sorry Mr. Restaurant owner.
This one is ugly – while myself and my Ex husband were shopping for groceries the day before Valentine’s day, he told me to pick out a nice flower arrangement in a keepsake vase for Valentines. I thought it was kind of romantic. Until we were at the register. He paid for everything then handed me the vase and shouted to me, “keep the vase and buy your own stupid flowers from now on!” I was mortified as the clerks were all staring at me while he stormed out of the store. I took my flowers and cried my way out of the store and walked home. You know what though….I still have the vase but I got rid of the husband!
Many years of Valentines have been happy ones. Now I am with the love of my life. One Valentines he sent me a huge bouquet of roses to my work. All the girls around me were jealous of my 2 dozen red roses bouquet.
This Valentine’s we are apart but as special as he is, he bought me a See’s Candies Chocolate Heart and gave it to me before he left. So thoughtful. I gave him two garden plants. He loves to be in his garden.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day filled with memories.
Enjoy your day!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. May you have a day filled with love, and chocolates of course!
Enjoy your day.
Today is the day the IBM PC was introduced. On August 12, 1981, IBM released their new computer, re-named the IBM PC. The “PC” stood for “personal computer” making IBM responsible for popularizing the term “PC”. You have to stop and think about where the computer has come and how amazing it is now. Where would all us bloggers be without the origination of the IBM PC way back then. Here is some IBM history.
I found a couple “bytes” recipe blogs in honor of IBM day. Chocolate Bytes is on Blisstree.com with delicious chocolate recipes. BellyBytes has lots of healthy recipes. I especially like the popcorn recipe section.
Last on my list: go to foodgawker.com and search the word “bite”. You will find many delicious looking recipes all begging to be tried. Thank you IBM for letting me have a byte of the blogging world.
Today is Play in the Sand day. You guessed it, I found some fun sand theme recipes. It was a slight challenge because I kept getting sandwiches recipes. A little digging (pardon the pun) and I located these cute ideas. Allrecipes.com has Sand Cups made with vanilla pudding with crushed vanilla wafers as the sand. They added gummy worms and gummy sharks for extra effect. Disney Family Fun has a Towering Sand Castle Cake made from stacked yellow cake and ice cream cones for details. Very cute idea. My favorite for the day is from the decorated cookie. Meaghan is a professional cookie decorator. She created a shore thing – candy sea shells using her own candy clay recipe. Lots of detail in her work. It is fun the play in the sand, even more fun if you can eat it. Grab your pail and shovel, enjoy the day.
Today is National S’mores day. The chocolaty, gooey, marshmallow camping treat with the irresistible flavor. Have you ever made them in your microwave for a quick treat? Try using a low pulse power cooking time and watch the marshmallow expand then shrink several times in the short 20 seconds or so, fun to watch. S’mores have been finding there way into many different types of recipes. An interesting idea is to make S’moreos. Cakespy features the Oreo cookie S’more treat with microwave directions and delectable looking photos. Cooking Stuff used the same idea with a Strawberry Oreo over her stove flame. How about S’mores cookies? Make and Bake has a recipe from Cookie Madness that during the baking process the marshmallows and chocolate bar are pressed in the cookie then the baking continues to melt them. Delish. A simpler way is to make a S’more bar as Must Love Chutney created from a recipe she found. Finally I found this recipe for a S’mores cake on Bakingbites.com. It looks gooey and decadent, made with all the ingredients in the traditional S’more. Try having that wonderful childhood camping treat either traditional, microwaved, baked or maybe make a S’more ice cream sundae to enjoy a sticky, gooey fun S’mores day.
